Hi friends, family, CSA members, and random site visitors! We have had some big changes in the past year including losing some wonderful land we had been farming, as well as gaining some new amazing land. We bought a tractor, have been working on an irrigation system, built a small hoop house in the back yard, and spoke at Johns Hopkins to their students, professors, and chefs about Real Food and the challenges that face young organic farmers. Farming has been, is, and will continue to be an adventure. Sometimes days you fail and have to take a deep breath, move on, and keep growing. Other days you are outside with the birds gliding and diving past the barn, the gentle breezes, and some good music in your headphones and you can’t believe you are lucky enough to call this your ‘job’. We have been on both sides and still wouldn’t want to do anything else.
We have been running the spring marathon and trying desperately to get all these plant babies into the ground so we’ll have delicious veggies for our CSA members, markets, and restaurants this year. The days bleed together and weekend plans have become a thing of the past. That’s just farming in the Spring. It’s the season we are in and we are embracing it. I’ve always thought life is easier to tackle when you think of it in seasons. The hard times pass, the good times become a memory, and the seasons will always roll on.
So, stay tuned here for blog updates, recipes, farm stories- our big successes and sometimes bigger failures, and everything in between. You can also always find us on Facebook and Instagram: claytonfarms
