Why We Farm
We are a local small-scale sustainable farm in the Baltimore and Carroll County area of Maryland. We want to provide our community with access to healthy, organically grown produce in the hope that we all may live longer healthier lives. This is our passion, and it goes beyond selling high quality produce. We implement efficient, sustainable, and regenerative growing techniques that maintain healthy soil and encourage biodiversity. We offer an excellent Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program allowing members direct access to extremely fresh and natural produce. We also promote Food-Independence and self-sufficiency by building affordable gardens. At Clayton farms we believe in leaving the land in better condition than how it was found. We want future generations to have access to non-toxic, healthy food, and we want communities to be food independent and self-sufficient ensuring our enduring liberty.
Clayton Farms is a Certified Naturally Grown Farm with locations in Baltimore County and Carroll County. We DO NOT use any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or GMOs. CNG is an independent program and are a grassroots alternative to the USDA National Organic Program. We are proud to be a CNG grower and we want our community to thrive by eating fresh, natural, locally grown produce.
How We Farm
Our approach to farming comes from SPIN farming techniques. Small Plot Intensive Farming is a practice where small sub acre plots are efficiently and carefully cultivated for high production with minimal capital. In this practice land can be borrowed from various people and then farmed by the farmer. Backyard or neighborhood plots, or unused fields become the farm in a mutually beneficial relationship for the farmer and land provider. This keeps overhead low, is environmentally friendly, and allows for a high production on minimal land through intensively cultivated plots. We are growing food, not lawns and turning yards into farms.
We only buy our seeds from Certified Organic Seed growers/sellers. We do not purchase any GMO seeds.
We use organic compost, weed barrier cloth, and dedicated pathways that help avoid erosion in the planting process. We strive to create our own compost and have also purchased organic compost from a certified compost company.
Your vegetables are typically hand picked at the height of freshness and sold to you that day! We have a wide and growing variety of produce. Feel free to visit our CSA tab to see a list.
We currently do a CSA as well as two Farmer’s Markets. We are looking to expand further with restaurants and in the past have grown for:
- McFauls Ironhorse Tavern
- Koopers in Jacksonville
- Koopers North
- Shoprite Grocery Store in Jacksonville
